A broad term that applies to the technique of growing in vitro cells and plant tissues in nutrient environment of defined composition, under controlled conditions of light and temperature. Plant cells are totipotent, therefore, each cell of a plant contains the entire genetic information and physiological apparatus for regenerating a whole plant and functional. Therefore this technique has been used since the middle of this century, to produce plants that will spread, cleaning clonal Conservation germplasm exchange etc..[1]
