Genetically Modified Organism
GMO stands for Genetically Modified Organisms. 1. Organisms that are genetically manipulated to favor the desired characteristics. GMOs have genome changes which have been performed through DNArecombinant technology or genetic engineering. 2. GMO is, according to art. 3, item V, of the Brazilian Federal Law No. 11.105 of 24 March 2005, an organism whose genetic material (DNA / RNA) has been modified by any genetic engineering technique, excluded from this classification those bodies "resulting from techniques involving the direct introduction, of a body of hereditary material, provided it does not involve the usage of molecules DNA/RNA or recombinant GMO, such as fertilization in vitro, conjugation, transduction, transformation, induction polyploid and any other natural process. "3. an acronym that identifies the types of germplasm collection maintained at Embrapa Genetic Resources and Biotechnology, in this case, GMO hits collection.
