GMO stands for Genetically Modified Organisms;

  1. Organisms that are genetically manipulated to favor the desired characteristics. GMOs have genome changes which have been performed through DNArecombinant technology or genetic engineering;
  2. GMO is, according to art. 3, item V, of the Brazilian Federal Law No. 11.105 of 24 March 2005, an organism whose genetic material (DNA / RNA) has been modified by any genetic engineering technique, excluded from this classification those bodies "resulting from techniques involving the direct introduction, of a body of hereditary material, provided it does not involve the usage of molecules DNA/RNA or recombinant GMO, such as fertilization in vitro, conjugation, transduction, transformation, induction polyploid and any other natural process;
  3. an acronym that identifies the types of germplasm collection maintained at Embrapa Genetic Resources and Biotechnology, in this case, GMO hits collection.
