Improvement/upgrading

Subject that deals with the crossing of plants with self-fertilization, cross-fertilization or hybridization and aims to produce improved progeny. The most important objectives in breeding programs are to increase the crop yield, the selection for resistance to pests and diseases, the finding of Tolerance to environmental stresses and the pursuit of quality characteristics (eg increased of starch in tuberous crops).
