Situation where related culture and a wild species(s) coexist in nature in sufficient proximity that inspires hybridization and gene flow between them. The wild species usually occurs as a weed and can be the parent culture or derive from a common ancestral to both. Various cultures are supposed to have incorporated wild genes due to this interaction (eg pepper species, barley, sorghum, rice, oats, wheat, potatoes, tomatoes etc.).[1]
