Term that defines a group of multiple molecular forms of the same enzyme, resulting from the presence of more than one gene encoding each of these molecular forms in the genome of a species. Isoenzymes perform the same catalytic activity, but have different kinetic properties and may be separated by biochemical processes. When encoded by allelic genes to a in loco, the isoenzymes are called allozymes.
