Geographical isolation between populations of the same species, so that the gene flow is interrupted between them and, as the result may be the reproductive isolation between them, thus enabling the formation of new species. Allopatric speciation is that which occurs between populations occupying exclusive geographic areas, although the communities may be relatively close or adjacent. This last is most common among animals than in plants.
